Are there solar peaks in a day when generation can be maximised

Solar energy is all about generation and efficiency. The more energy that is generated and the more the solar panels are efficient, the more you will come to appreciate solar and its many benefits of being the best source of renewable energy out there. Given that it is a derivative of the sun, there are times during the day when the sun is at its highest and the solar output is at its peak, from the generation viewpoint. In this blog post, we will discuss whether such ‘solar peaks’ actually exist, and if so, when do they happen and what can be done to maximise the output generation from your solar panels when these solar peaks do happen.

From CanadianSolar panels to SOFAR Solar inverters and much more in terms of solar energy equipment, the best solar energy equipment supplier in UAE, Beacon Energy, is here to bring you the best of what the industry has to offer. Whether you have a residential solar or commercial solar project at hand, Beacon Energy has the equipment to make it happen in an absolutely perfect manner. Now, lets look at whether there are solar peaks in a day, and if so, what can be done to maximise power generation from your solar panels during these peaks.

Solar peaks: what are they?

Solar peaks are described as points of time during a day when the sun is angled at its highest position relative to the ground. This essentially makes for a situation where sunlight exposure on the earth is at its highest for a given area, and, theoretically, if high-yield or high-output solar panels were to be placed in the direct path of sunlight at this point, the yield would in fact be amazing.

Solar peaks are actually possible, and happen everyday, albeit the times change through the weathers. However, the basic idea stays the same: for solar panels, the idea is that maximum sunlight with maximum intensity for the maximum duration be achieved for maximum level of generation. Throughout the day, sun and consequently the sunlight change position and intensity, and this provides for the ups and downs in generation for the solar panels. This is what solar peak refers to when the sun is at its highest: solar peak occurs when the sun is at its highest position, and sunlight falls directly at the solar panels and is intense enough to merit a generation boost from the solar panels.

When do peak solar hours happen?

Peak solar is defined by the time period the sun remains in the position where it affords the panels to generate efficiently.

This time period is measured in hours, and usually depends on the geographical placement of the panels themselves. However, generally, the peak solar period is thought of as the time popularly known as noon and afternoon. More specifically, afternoon past 1pm is usually the time when the sun gets to its highest position, and depending on the climatic situation, the intensity of the sunlight is at its highest, contributing to the solar panels performing efficiently and generating energy by the gazoo.

In summers, one could argue that every noon and afternoon is a peak hour, since in the UAE, the time period after 10am features harsh sunlight and extreme temperatures, usually throughout the summer. And that is true; however, even within these times of perpetual harsh temperatures and intense sunlight, one slot within it features the peak of sunlight, and this is usually identified as the solar peak. Which means, in UAE, the solar peak is the time period between 1pm and 3pm. This is the time when solar energy is arguably at its peak, and solar panels, when placed in the right position and at the right angle, will generate solar energy efficiently.

Solar Panel placement

However, to that effect, it is imperative that solar panels be placed in manner and at an angle that makes them conducive at receiving solar energy and generating electricity, making the most use out of this solar goldmine. Therefore, solar companies and installation services will try to identify the position relative to the solar peak and install solar panels at an angle that sunlight during the solar peak falls directly onto the solar panels, and isn’t obstructed or impeded by structures elsewhere.
